Clwyd Abbey arrived in France on 31 August 1916 whilst serving as a private in the Grenadier Guards, service number 24847. He was commissioned on the 26 June 1917 and served in the East Yorkshire Regiment as a Lieutenant. For his service he was awarded the British War and Victory Medals, his address as shown on his medal card was 43, St John’s Street, Lord Mayors Walk.

James enlisted in the Grenadier Guards on 16 March 1915. He gave his trade as a wagon builder; his age was 23 years and 5 months old, 5 feet 8 ins tall. James joined the Grenadiers at White City on 17 March. James served in the UK between 16 March and 29 April 1916, he served overseas between 30 April and 26 December 1916. When he arrived in the UK he was transferred to the 5th Battalion, and remained in the UK until 31 March 1918, during which time he became a 1st Class Signaller. One his arrival in France on 1 April he rejoined the 1st Battalion He served overseas between 1 April and early 1919. When he left the army he signed a disclaimer stating that he was not suffering from any disability due to military service, the disclaimer was signed on 14th March 1919 at Romford.

Stanley Addinall died on 17th February 1919, aged 29. He was the son of John and Rebecca Addinall, of 53, Bilton St., Layerthorpe, York. He was buried Fulford Cemetery, K. 6. Stanley is commemorated on the St Cuthbert’s Church War Memorial Peasholme Green (see photo) and in The King’s Book. An obituary was published in the Yorkshire Herald on 18 February 1919, Stanley enlisted in 1914 and had previously worked for Rowntree’s.
